Determining Your Needs for Web Design

September 12, 2011 - 5:26 am - Posted by admin

Before you run off and build a website, it is important to determine your needs first.  Don’t hire someone prior to sitting down and making a list of requirements for your online business.  Some of the things you should consider include the type of site you are going to build, who your customers and target audience are, and the functionality required throughout the site.  All of these factors will help you make a better decision on hiring a professional or if you can build the site on your own.

Building a website for a business depends on many factors.  When you sit down and make a list of the requirements your site should have, you will have a better understanding of how much money it will cost you if you hire someone.  There are many different types of sites.  The most common types of websites include retail sites that customers can by directly from or informational sites that businesses advertising their services  provide for informational purposes.  You must be able to categorize your business properly so you know the type of site you will have and the complexity required.

Another factor is who your target audience is going to be.  Determining your target audience will help you design your website.  For example, if you have a business offering information and access to a citizenship application or provide assistance with the US Green Card and USCIS, then you want the colors to be professional, which may be tan, greens, browns, and white.  You wouldn’t want to use primary colors and make the site look good for children.  It would be like designing a site selling men’s clothing in pink and purple.  Your audience makes a difference in the colors.  If a programmer is writing the code for your site, changing the colors could take days and be expensive.  Determine your design and colors up front and you won’t have any problems.  This helps by knowing your audience.

The functionality required on a site is very important.  Can the shoppers on your site actually perform a purchase transaction?  Do you want them too?  Do you have a form for customers to send you an email with questions and comments?  If so, the form should work.  If there are functionalities you want the customers to be able to perform, it is important to understand the complexity of making these things happen.  Some people have expectations for their website and do not understand the cost behind making it work.  Programmers can be expensive.  The more functionality and difficulty you want with your site, the more expensive it will be to build and maintain.

There are many considerations with a website before you run off and begin building one.  The most important factors to consider before you sign an agreement with a programmer or a professional include the type of site you want to build, the amount of functionality, and who your audience is going to be.  Always consider these things and have a good idea of how much money you are going to spend before you hire someone.

Factors to Consider with Your Online Site and Web Design

June 16, 2011 - 11:34 am - Posted by admin

If you have an online site, there are many factors you must consider so you can be as successful as possible.  Web design is not just about a website with pages.  You must consider the attractiveness, site depth, functionality, and usefulness.

The attractiveness of a site is very important when you have an online business, especially if you are selling something boring like corrugated cardboard edge protectors.  If you find it difficult to design an exciting site selling edge protectors, it probably is.  You don’t have to be exciting.  The website selling corrugated edge protectors needs to be attractive in viewing not straining to the eyes and pleasant.  You cannot make edge protectors look sexy to sell them.  Corrugated edge protectors are just edge protectors.  Chances are good, there are 50 other sites selling the same products you are at the same price.  Why should the customers buy from your site?  Attractiveness will help you get the customers to buy from you.

Site depth is another factor you should consider when you have a website.  All sites need to work with search engines if you want people searching for specific items to find you.  Most people think the only important factor with web pages is the content written on the pages.  This is not true.  The depth of your site is vital.  Search engines will index a website up to 3 pages in depth, but you can go as wide as you like.  Think width with a website and not deep.  If you have pages embedded 8 pages deep, the search engines will not find them.  This could work against you if your most important content or SEO driven content is on those pages.

Functionality is another factor you must consider with an online business selling products or services.  Customers get frustrated when features of a site don’t work, especially if they are trying to make a purchase after filling their shopping cart and it won’t work.  Not only will you lose the sale but the customer will most likely not come back.  Fragile shipment protection features should work or you may not pack the items carefully.  In addition, fragile shipment protection should have a way for customers to contact you in case their items show up broken.

The usefulness of a site is always remembered by a customer.  If you sell products like organizers offering fragile shipment protection, ensure your content is useful.  Give customers ideas on ways they can save space using the different organizers you offer.  Useful content gives a business credibility as well, because it shows the shopper you know your business and your products.

There are many things to consider when you have a website.  Web design includes more than just the pages themselves but the attractiveness, functionality, depth and usefulness of your site.

The True Cost of Web Design

March 5, 2011 - 5:38 am - Posted by admin

Many people that are setting up a web site for the first time, and even some of the veterans out there think that the cost of a web page, like baby clothes, is just the cost of the page. The real meat of the problem is not is the fact that it is good looking, like cute baby clothes might be. The true cost is the amount that you might lose by not paying attention to the details. Like designer diaper bags keep the diapers just as well as a regular one. But think about the lost revenue you might have for a poorly designed page. That would factor in to the over all cost of the web site as well would it not?

A web site is only as effective as the design and if you pay bargain basement price for the design and get a bargain basement look than you will likely as not loose more traffic and business than you want to and the bottom line is that you are losing money as a direct result.

People do not care that you are low on funds. People do not care that your best friend is a “web designer”. All that the customer or visitor to your site is concerned with is whether or not the web site grabs their attention long enough for them to stick around to find what they want or what they are looking for.

Take baby clothes as an example. You can buy the basic styles nearly every where and have a cute baby that people notice. You can dress the child up in cute baby clothes and carry around one of those designer diaper bags and people will be falling all over the baby trying to see it and saying how adorable the child is.

SO the same baby, dressed in two totally opposing ways will get you two completely different reactions from the public at large. If you think of your web site and the web design like a baby you will get a much better perspective of what we are talking about. People like cute and adorable and will go out of their way to say how much they like it where a plain one will get a glance and they will move on rather than taking the time to get to know it.

It is true believe me. In fact the next time that you are on the Internet, watch the web pages that you yourself are going to. I think you will find a strong correlation to the amount of time that you spend on a web location and the looks of that page or site. People like pretty things. That goes for everything from babies to cars to their mates. It is much easier to spend time looking at something that is nice than it is to stare at some unattractive thing, no matter what the thing is. Would you rather look at a cloud bank or a fiery sunset?

What Web Design May Be Costing You

April 22, 2010 - 2:52 pm - Posted by admin

Whether you are running an immigration web site, a florist shop online, a bricks and mortar legal business, or another type of business, web design is likely an important part of your online marketing strategy. The right web design can help establish your credibility, can help draw more customers to your web site, and can help make your online marketing strategy more effective. However, most people underestimate the power of poor web design. If your web design is not up to snuff, it could be costing you a lot of money. Here’s how:

1) Poor web design hurts your credibility and authority. In today’s world, many people and potential customers judge web sites by their design and appearance. An amateur or poorly designed web page makes customers believe that you are a business that is not credible. With so many fraudsters online now, you need to establish good credibility to ensure good business. Whether you are offering help with USCIS forms or selling shoes online, it is imperative that your customers trust you. A professional, authoritative looking web site is a good place to start.

2) Poor web design can affect accessibility to your web site. Bad web design is not just about appearances. Poor design can even harm the way that users interact with your web space. For example, poor web design can mean that users with certain browsers cannot even access your web site. Poor web design can also include lack of accessibility features, which make it harder for differently-abled Internet users to access your business online.

3) Poor web design can hurt your brand image. You probably would not send your employees to talk to customers in ratty jeans and dirty sweatshirts. However, bad web design can create just as bad an impression for your potential customers and existing clients. Whether you are offering customers help with green card replacement forms or whether you are selling bikinis online, having an attractive, professional web site makes it easier to convince customers that you are a professional business – one that is worth doing business with.

4) Poor web design is likely costing you money in redesign costs. If you notice poor web design on your web site, you will likely have to pay to have that fixed. Similarly, if bad web design is making it hard for clients and customers to access your business online, you will likely have to pay a web designer extra money in order to correct the problems. It is much more cost-effective to get it right the first time. Hire a quality web design company that can help you get the most out of your web site the first time around.

Uses of Articles for Your Online Business

December 13, 2008 - 9:01 pm - Posted by admin

If you are thinking about hiring a professional to help you with your online business it is an excellent idea. The most common thing that a professional marketer can do for you is write articles. Articles are used in many ways to help your business. Many of the things a professional will do with articles written for your online company includes submitting them to directories, use them as content on your site, post them on blogs, and much more.

Writing articles about your business should be done by a professional. You should never write your own content unless you are a professional yourself and you are a writer. Even if you are a writer it is often hard to see your business differently as it should be seen. You know how you would like to be viewed but you are the business owner.

A professional is going to take your articles and submit them to online directories. Directories are places that will take the article and send them out in a mass place to be posted throughout the web. If you have a business selling artificial Christmas trees the articles will be very beneficial to help you push your product. The articles may be about how wonderful your prelit Christmas trees look and why people should consider shopping from you.

When you hire a professional to write articles for you they will also post the articles to many blogs for you. They will look for holiday blogs and blogs related to your product or service. They might find a blog about lighted palm trees and post an article about your business there. This will also include a link back to your online site so readers who are interested can have an easy way to get back to your business and check out the product. Blogs are very popular today and you definitely want a professional to do this for you.

Articles are also used to provide professional content on your site. The important thing about articles is that they need to be naturally packed with keywords so they work with the search engines to rank you as high as possible. They also need to provide useful content to the readers. You want readers to stick around for a while when they come to your online business. When you hire a company to do this the content will be error free, professional, and work with the search engines.

A professional web marketer consultant is going to write articles for your business online. They can then do many things with the articles. They can post the articles to blogs, submit them to hundreds of directories, and even use them as content on your web pages. The importance is that all of the articles need to be completely unique and not plagiarized or it can cause you a law suit or even blacklisted from the search engines. You should never copy content and you should hire a professional to do the work for you. This will ensure you that the job is done right.

Signs that Your Content Needs a Professional’s Touch

November 16, 2008 - 12:56 pm - Posted by admin

If you have an online business there are many signs that will tell you that you need a professional to help you with your content. These signs could be mistakes or misspellings, not selling your product, not showing up in a keyword search and much more.

When you have an online business there are many things you need to do to be successful. Just because you have a website doesn’t mean you will be successful and things will work out as you want them too. A good site includes great photos, a good product or service that is needed by people, and the right content on your site.

If you have grammatical errors and a lot of misspellings then you might need to hire someone to write your content for you. You might be one of those people who cannot spell and you don’t grasp writing as others do. Most people don’t. The problem is that when visitors come to your site they are looking for professionalism. If there are spelling errors and the content doesn’t read well it will cause a distrust with the visitors because it may not seem as a real business. Shoppers don’t trust a site that looks amateur. They will spend their money on a site that looks professional and doesn’t have a lot of mistakes. Misspellings are much worse than a broken link on a site.

If you are not selling many items on your site you might need to retouch the content also. There are many retail sites online that sell items and they don’t have any product descriptions. These sites fail because a user wants not only a picture of the product they are about to buy but they want to know about the product. You might be selling artificial Christmas trees online. The shopper is going to want to know how tall the Christmas tree is they might buy and how big around it is. Each photo of the artificial Christmas trees you have should have a brief description about the product. This will give more trust to the shopper in making a purchase and it can also help you with keywords for the search engines.

Another signal you need a professional to help you with your online site is if you do a search on a search engine and you don’t see your business. This is a problem because it may be impossible for people to know you exist. You need to be pulled up when users are looking for trees.

There are many signs that will tell you that you need to hire a professional for the content on your website. A professional can write professional content that will work with the search engines, build trust with the shoppers, and help you sell your products. Content is one of the number one reasons that many businesses fail on the Internet. If you really want to do well then you should hire a professional who can do it for you.

Become a Part of a Community

June 15, 2008 - 7:13 pm - Posted by admin

One of the great things about having your own website is that you become a part of a community of other business and people with the same goals you do. It doesn’t matter the type of business you have when you have an online company.

If you have a business targeted toward citizenship information and laws then you can make it a very successful company. You might not be making a lot of money right now but if you get the right help from the right sources then you can be very successful. All you need are some people to guide you along the way on how to market your business properly. You can learn things about proper optimization of your site too that will generate more traffic and in return make you more money.

There are a lot of people running searches about information on citizenship. If you aren’t being noticed or being pulled up in the searches it is because your site is not properly optimized by the best keywords for search engines. You can pay for SEO services that can help you provide the best content on your website. When you have appropriate content related to your services that includes keywords for optimization then your site will generate a larger amount of traffic. You cannot have a website and not have any content on it because then the only way people will know about your site is through word of mouth. However, it will never improve the hits you get on your site through search engines.

Another thing you need to think about with your business is an Internet marketing consultant. In addition to being at the top of the list on the search results you want a hype created about your business so people go and check out your website. A consultant can provide these services by helping you place ads on your site and by creating a marketing buzz about you too. People will be excited to go to your site to find out what you are all about.

One the buzz and the proper optimization is formed then a consultant can also help you become a part of communities online. This is a great way for you to chat with other people who have the same goals as you and it allows you to meet new friends all over the world. When you are a part of a community then you can receive support from other people and tap their brains for information when you have an important question. It is great to be a part of an online community and you don’t even have to leave your home.

There are many ways to make an online business like the one offering citizenship information successful. You can have a business about anything for that matter. The key is to finding the right professional services to guide you into creating an excellent site and marketing for your business. You will be surprised how quickly your business grows and becomes successful.

How to Write Great Content Articles That Will Impress Your Web Design Company

December 26, 2007 - 9:58 am - Posted by admin

If you have hired a web design company to develop your web site and online presence, but have decided to develop your own content and articles, you may be feeling a little intimidated while sitting in front of the blank screen. Here are some simple tips for writing your own articles for your web site:

1) Brainstorm. This is a tip that professional writers use all the time. Simply grab a number of colored pencils or pens and a large piece of paper. Write down, in no particular order, questions that your customers and clients have asked you, questions that friends and family have asked you when they first learned about your business, things that you are really proud of in your company, things that you feel your company does better than the competition, and ways that your company can help customers. Ideally, don’t write these in a big list but rather spaced out on the big page of paper. Each of these is potentially an article idea.

2) Go back to your big piece of paper. Now, circle those ideas that you feel are most promising. Especially take a close look at questions that your customers and clients tend to ask you. Chances are, your customers and clients will come to your web site looking for answers to just these questions. From each promising idea, draw several lines. At the end of each line, write down ideas that you can incorporate into the article. For example, if your business offers credit counseling and your customers tend to ask you “how can I turn my credit score around?”, you might want to circle that question on your brainstorming sheet, and around it you may wish to place some ideas that you can incorporate in the article. For example, you may want to include all the ideas you have for helping someone turn their credit score around.

3) Once you have an idea as well is your basic article points, you can sit down at the computer and start typing. If this makes you nervous, imagine that you are speaking to a customer on the telephone. Write down what you would say to the customer. If this still seems intimidating, take a voice recorder and speak your answer into the microphone. Then, transcribe what you have spoken.

4) Go over what you’ve written and make sure that it really serves the customer. Ideally, your article should help answer customer questions and should reassure them. What you should not be doing is providing a hard sell for your company. In most cases, you want your web site to be informative, but you do not want your web site to be just one big ad. Visitors do not like ads on web sites, and are more likely to seek out the competition if they feel they’re being pressured to buy something. In the above example of a credit counseling company, you may wish to provide a checklist of things that people can do turn their credit score around – things such as “reduce unnecessary luxuries” or “have payroll deduct 10% of your paycheck into a savings account.” At the very end of the article, you may include your business phone number and tell customers that they can call you for more information or to learn about services that can help them turn their credit score around. What you should not do is mention your company name several times throughout the article.

Should You Hire a Web Design Company for Articles or Create Your Own?

November 30, 2007 - 12:45 pm - Posted by admin

Many companies wonder whether they should hire a web design company or write their own articles. Web design companies can charge anywhere from a few dollars to $20 or $50 per article. Some companies require new content on their blogs, web sites, and other online web spaces almost daily, so the cost of articles can really add up. If you’re considering who should create your articles, consider:

1) Quality. If you can write fairly well, you may be able to get away with writing your own content. However, if you do not write very well, it may be easier to outsource your article writing to your web design company. On the other hand, don’t assume that just because a web design company is writing articles, that you will be getting better quality. Always research the company who’s doing your writing. Do they outsource their writing themselves? Do they hire professional writers? You want to make sure that you will get consistent, reliable quality, especially if you are paying for it.

2) Time. Writing many articles per day or per week takes quite a bit of time and effort. If many of your profits come directly or largely from your articles on your web sites, an article writing service may be a good use of time for you. However, if other aspects of your business require your attention more than article writing, you may have to outsource that part of your business.

3) Quantity. In some cases, businesses require so many articles that it becomes virtually impossible for a business to complete all the articles themselves. for example, if you’re launching a web site that offers content for other users, you may require thousands of articles within a short of time. The best way to get quality articles on such numbers is to hire a number of writers who can work simultaneously on the project. A web design company will have the resources to come up with such a team of writers. If, on the other hand, you require only one or two articles a month, you may be able to easily fit that amount of writing into your schedule.

4) Hiring. Some companies opt to hire a full-time writer or freelance writer to create content for them. The major advantage of this is that the writer can get to know your company and can create specialized content just for you. In many cases, too, you can often pay far less for a writer when you hire directly than if you were to pay the web design company. The major downside, however, is that you will have a new employee you will have to manage. You also have to go through the process of hiring a new writer, ensuring that the writer you’re hiring has the skills you need.

5) Special skills. If your content requires special SEO skills or special formatting, it may be easier for you to hire a web design company than try to learn these techniques yourself.

In many cases, companies can save time, effort, and headaches by hiring a web design company to write articles for their web sites. In many cases, web design companies hire writers or have freelancers on call who can handle large volumes of content. By hiring a web site design company to write articles, too, you can insure that content and your design will work well together. However, if you are just starting out and require only a modest amount of content, you may be able to save a little bit of money by creating your own content. You should only attempt this, though, if you have a natural facility with language and can produce good content.

If you need a company who can create good content for your web site as well as good design, contact Ciplex today. Ciplex is a California-based web design firm. Their team includes a number of professional writers who have many years of experience writing the sort of content that gets Internet users interested.
